Messiah
Christmas

The Culwick Choral Society was founded in 1898 by the illustrious musician, Dr. James C. Culwick, who was also a co-founder of Feis Ceoil in 1897. The Culwick is an amateur choir whose members are drawn from all over Dublin (Ireland) and the surrounding counties. While the choir is versatile in its repertoire, performance of the classical choral works is undoubtedly dearest to the heart of the Society. Standard performances each year include a major work each Spring: in 2004 a memorable performance of Walton's Belshazzar's Feast jointly with the Dublin County Choir, in 2005 Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem, in 2006 Mendelssohn's Elijah, and in 2008 the beautiful Requiem by Gabriel Fauré and the jubilant Gloria! by Francis Poulenc. In addition to an annual Christmas Concert, the choir has sung Handel's Messiah for two nights each December since 1990 in St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin to benefit a designated charity.

Choir rehearsals are held every Thursday evening at 7.45 p.m. in the Church of Ireland College of Education, 96 Upper Rathmines Road, Dublin 6.

The Culwick's Musical Director is Bernie Sherlock and the Chorus Master is David Leigh.

Upcoming performances by the Culwick:

Handel's Messiah, St Patrick's Cathedral, 3 & 4 December 2008, proceeds to benefit Bóthar.

A Glorious Choral Christmas, National Concert Hall, 17 December, includes Saint-Saëns' Oratorio de Noel/A Christmas Oratorio and Christmas carols old and new.
